Second Day: This morning visit the ruins of La Quemada, and archeological zone dating to 1200 A.D. This is the legendary home where the Aztecs had supposedly lived before their migration in to Valley of Mexico. Then see the Convent of Guadalupe, famous for its colonial art collection and home of the Franciscan missionaries entrusted with the Christianization of the indigenous populations of Mexico. Next door to the convent is an excellent old hacienda, now a historical museum. This afternoon drive up to La Bufa for a stupendous view from a point overlooking the city. Pancho Villa defeated government forces here during the Revolution. Board the funicular (aerial tram) and cruise over the city. Stroll through the meandering cobblestone streets of the historic city, enjoying its pr preserved ornate facades and inviting shops.

Third Day: This morning visit the Rafael Coronel Museum housing a collection of over 4,000 native masks used in dances and traditional ceremonies. Once a religious convent, this museum is a superb example of colonial archirecture at its finest. Then continue to the Pedro Coronel Museum in a former Jesuit College. Colors and hues of the rainbow will delight you as you enjoy styles of painting from all coners of the world and ancient sculpture.
Then visit the Silversmith Center located in a ex-hacienda on the grounds of the country club. Master Craftsmen and teachers will lead a tour of the center and demonstrate their skills. Shopping Time in the afternoon, visit the El Eden Mine. Tour this fascinating mine with its shrine to the Santo Nino de Atocha, patrol saint of the miners. Listen to exciting folk-tales and enjoy the experience to be found in the mine.

Fourth Day: Depart magical Zacatecas for the return journey home with a midday stop at Saltillo. Continue to McAllen arriving about 5:30 PM, bringing with you a wealth of memories from a beautiful part of Mexico.

Founded in 1546 by Spanish Conquistadores in search of the enormous lodes of silver, Zacatecas  is considered to be one of the most beautiful of all Colonial silver cities.  Its great mining wealth during the Colonial period made Zacatecas important and dynamic with Colonial architecture in its finest.  Oxford University considers the baroque Cathedral of Zacatecas to be true jewel.  Not only colonial architecture and mining but revolutionary battles and ancient pre-Hispanic archeological sites make this one of the most fascinating and charming cities in central Mexico.

First Day: Depart from the Rio Grande Valley and clear customs at Reynosa.  Ride to Saltillo on the superhighway enjoying vistas of distant mountains leading to the plateau area of Zacatecas.  Arrive in the late afternoon checking into your host hotel, the elegant downtown Hotel Emporio Continental.
