To complement your planning for your road trip to Mexico, you may register your trip to with the State Department; this is a free service, provided by the US Government for US citizens, who are traveling to a foreign country. Registering allows you to record information about your upcoming trip and the Department of State can use to assist you in case of an emergency. Please be aware of your surroundings; stay alert. Mexico's government continues with their war against drug cartels. For most Mexicans, this war is something that they read in the media, not something they are experiencing. This is also true for tourists, and this war is far from tourist spots and resorts.

The State Department's Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management (ACS) administers the Consular Information Program, which informs the public of conditions abroad that may affect their safety and security. Country Specific Information, Travel Alerts, and Travel Warnings are vital parts of this program.
