Sanborn's Mexican Insurance
Sanborn's Insurance knows that your peace of mind is what's most important to you and your family when you're out on the roads of Mexico. Sanborn's makes it easier to buy the mandatory Mexican Insurance you need when driving south of the border.
Don't cross the border without it!
Why buy Mexican Insurance?
Foreign auto insurance is not valid within the country of Mexico, therefore your US or Canadian auto insurance is not valid in Mexico. Liability coverage is mandatory on all federal highways and bridges, in addition to local and states laws. Mexico law requires that insurance coverage is issued by a Mexican Insurance company. Sanborn's is an authorized agent who sells this insurance in the U.S.
Some U.S. insurance companies offer insurance coverage in Mexico by endorsement. However, the coverage is only for a short distance from the U.S. border (typically 25 miles) and for "infrequent" trips. It is very important to know that Mexico authorities do not recognize "foreign" insurance. So even if you're U.S. carrier says that you're covered, this will only be for your vehicle. Any damage to other people or their property will not be covered and you can go to jail if you are at fault in the accident.
What Coverage do we offer?
Sanborn's offers a variety of coverages to make sure that you and your vehicle will be taken care of in the event of an accident. We offer coverage for autos, RVs and motorcycles, from one day to one year, with special discounts on six month and annual policies.
This coverage protects your vehicle for the lesser of its ACV (actual cash value) or amount stated on your policy for total theft, fire, lightning, explosion, and natural disasters. You are required to carry full coverage on your vehicle in your home country to be eligible for this coverage. Partial theft is excluded. Please see HDI's Premier Coverage below if you would like coverage for partial theft. See Policy Conditions for complete details.
Protects the liability of the insured, or any person with a valid driver license, driving the vehicle against bodily injury and property damage to parties other than the insured and occupants of the insured vehicle. No deductible applies. Since your U.S./Canadian insurance is not valid in Mexico, this fulfills your "proof of financial responsibility" as required under Mexico law. Insurance coverage is available up to $500,000 U.S. as a Combined Single Limit (CSL) for damages caused to others. See Policy Conditions for complete details.
Pays medical expenses for the driver and occupants of the vehicle for injuries sustained in the event of a covered loss. Insurance coverage is available up to $20,000 for each injured occupant but not more than $100,000 for all occupants combined. See Policy Conditions for complete details.
A professional attorney is appointed by the Company for legal assistance through the conclusion of the insured's case as a result of an accident. The client must contact the Company immediately to have an attorney assigned. A bond will be posted up to a maximum which matches the liability limit on your policy. See Policy Conditions for complete details.
Receive benefits such as gas if the vehicle runs out, jump start of a dead battery, assistance changing a tire and/or getting it repaired in case of a flat, a locksmith to open the vehicle if the keys are locked inside and more. In case of breakdown, towing is available to the closest repair shop up to a maximum of $1,000. The driver or a representative must accompany the vehicle to the repair shop. See Policy Conditions for complete details.
GAP coverage will make sure that the full amount due to your lien holder/leasing company is paid in the event of the total loss of your vehicle while in Mexico even if your vehicle's actual cash value (ACV) is less than the amount you owe. If you do not have GAP coverage, the insurance company will only pay the ACV of your vehicle regardless of what you owe. Interest and other charges are not covered. Please read the endorsement on your policy for complete details.
Provides additional coverage for vandalism and partial theft that is not included in Physical Damage and Total Theft. Vandalism coverage is subject to a $500 deductible and partial theft has a maximum coverage of $3,000 with a $1,000 deductible. For partial theft coverage, all equipment and parts must be originally installed by the manufacturer or an authorized dealer. Proof of installed equipment and parts is required. Also included is a waiver deductible. If you are not at fault in the accident as determined by the authorities or the HDI adjuster, you will not have to pay the deductible when your vehicle is repaired. HDI will increase by 50% the limit of your medical expenses, if you are not at fault in the accident. In addition there is now coverage for your pets, cats and dogs traveling in the car at the time of an accident, are now covered up to $500 in medical expenses. Coverage is on a reimbursement basis and needs to be reported to HDI Seguros. Please read the endorsement on your policy for complete details.
This option will set your deductible for Physical Damage at $500 and for Total Theft/Fire/Natural Disaster at $1,000. This is a good option for vehicles with higher values as your deductibles will be a percentage of the value of your vehicle. Ask your agent for a quote so you can see the difference.
